Joseph’s Fight Against Hunger, Vusi’s Care for Children - They Need Us Now

We have been privileged to be able to improve so many lives impacted by the tragedy of HIV/AIDS. Peoples generosity has enabled us to have a disproportionate effect on poor suffering people.

HIV/AIDS which still effects approximately 20% of people in South Africa has had a profound effect on the population.  Families have been  destroyed with the death of so many in the past.  The resulting disruption to proper human development has made it almost impossible for children to become functional adults.  I remind myself how our own society with all its advantages struggles to do so.

With the help of exceptional local individuals AAF has been able to make a huge difference to the lives of struggling mothers and fathers and children.

Examples of currant projects are Joseph Dladla, with his project  IDWALA and Vusi Maphalala with DESTINY.

Joseph has found a huge need for food in his local township with men who have no employment due to the closure of local business enterprises.

Many have no means of maintaining their families and are suffering with severe hunger.

Joseph wants to start a Business Skills in partnership with a capable organisation. 15 people would be trained for 4 - 5 months and be helped to be qualified to either find a job or start their own business in home appliance repairs.  The budget would cost $1000 per month for 15 men to do the course for four months. ($4000 in all)

Vusi has created a creche to nurture young children and enable their very young mothers to learn how to continue their own education.

He has very motivated older ladies to work at this creche.  At the beginning they worked as volunteers, but now are paid a very small wage.

They have been given some help in training and are doing an amazing job.

These deprived children were found to have very poor language skills in spite of the fact that they should have good communication skills at that age.   Coming to the creche,  instead of sitting at home with little involvement  with others has been a great benefit to them.

Vusi has introduced career training to help young people choose the right subjects towards their goals.

He also has a holiday camp  to give help with the many problems the young people experience. Over the years we have met so many young people who say “Baba Maphalala has changed my life”

Right now we have a crisis as our organisation which relies on the sacrificial giving of normal Australians to resource our work is suffering from a critical lack of funds.

I would ask any who are able to help to contribute right now to ensure that our life changing work can continue.
