  • African Festival - Hyde Park, Sydney

    6/12/2009

On Sunday 6th December the African Festival was held in Hyde Park, Sydney. This festival was a day of family fun, celebrating African Culture in Australia. There were market stalls, education, live music, dancers, arts and crafts, food stalls, wine and beer garden, travel, tourism, trade, fashion, tastings and much more.

This festival is the culmination of a week long event including an African Business Promotion for Australian businesses, a film festival (the Nigerian Film Industry produces over 2000 movies annually), a FIFA Presentation by the South African government plus other activities.

African Aids Foundation took a stall at this event which turned out to be a great day. The purpose of the day was to promote AAF. We had a lot of interest in AAF from passing crowds. We sold some of our fundraising African jewellery and also received some donations. Thanks to those who requested more information on AAF and for providing your email addresses so you can continue to keep informed on the work we are doing in Africa. Thanks too for the volunteers that helped out on the day - it was all in all a great day.

  • Sydney Harbour Cruise success

    22/11/2009

The Sydney Harbour Fundraising Cruise was held on Sunday 22nd November, with commentary on the history of the harbour and the Jacaranda from Graham Ross. It was an unseasonal scorching hot day on the harbour. The heat however could not dampen our spirits and the cruise went ahead. The two hundred ticket holders heard all about the work of AAF through the sharing of Dr John Schwarz and volunteer Tim Pickles of Tim's Garden Centre. This event raised over $4000 and has increased AAF's profile amidst the Sydney region. Graham was entertaining and his wealth of knowledge impressive. The cruise was a generous gift from Graham and Sandra Ross and we are very grateful to them. What a great way to share the work of AAF and raise much needed funds. Thank you for all those who attended the event, your support is much appreciated
